In the past, the staff of Ethereal Lights has been unable to find an on-site Dice Rolling system that would be efficient. This is because, in most cases, the posts are editable after you have made your roll. With the posts being editable, players can easily edit their posts so that their rolls become whatever they'd want them to. But, that was the past! BadWolf and I have done some testing with different codes available for Zetaboards, and we've discovered one that seems to be legitimate. The Dice Roller will be used through BBCode. Now you may be thinking to yourself: "Oh great! Another code to remember!" Don't fret. This topic will show you how to use the dice roller, and it will always be available to reference to, while gaming. The code for the Dice Roller will be typed like so: (roll)NUMBER OF ROLLSdNUMBER OF SIDES+EXCESS(/roll) (You must type this in with brackets around "roll" and "/roll" rather than parenthesis - if I show you using the brackets, it will try to roll the dice.) Now, if you've yet to *facepalm*, good! Allow me to explain what all that means. NUMBER OF ROLLS: This is how many times you'd like to roll the dice. NUMBER OF SIDES: This is how many sides are on the dice. EXCESS: This number is added in addition to what you roll on the dice. (This value is optional) example: if you roll a 9, and the excess is 4, you get a 13. Now, I'm going to show you an example. (roll)2d12+4(/roll) (Remember: using brackets not parenthesis!) Two = The number of times you'd like to roll the dice. Twelve = The number of sides on the dice. Four = The number added after the roll is completed. A "Roll" button has also been added to the Format options on the "Full Reply Screen" page. The "Roll" option will guide you through rolling, if you get stuck. Remember: Once you click "Post Topic" after rolling a dice, your post becomes un-editable. It is permitted then to double-post if need be. Also, once you roll the dice the number that you rolled then becomes clickable. When you click the number, a pop-up box appears that shows how many rolls were made, how many sides were on the dice and the excess. My next post is going to illustrate the above mentioned (2d12+4) roll, so that you can see what the roll post looks like. When you post just the roll, just the number appears. So if you would like it to say "______ has rolled a...." you must manually type this in before the roll BBCode. You can contact myself or BadWolf with any questions. (Or you can simply post here!) Also, the dice roller can handle multiple dice being rolled, with or without excess values. Example: (roll)3d5+5+4d6+3(/roll) or (roll)3d5+4d6+1(/roll) (Remember, brackets instead of parenthesis!!) The first one contains excess in both rolls, the second one contains excess in the second roll. The only requirement is that there has to be a number in front of the dice, even if it is one roll. So a twelve-sided dice that is rolled once would look like this: 1d12 Edited by Nikkia, July 19, 2010, 2:27 am.

Found out how (roll)<dice values>(/roll) translates to (result=<dice values>)<result>(/result). But you guys were smart and put in a "Please do not cheat." message. Sneaky buggers, this'll be harder than I thought. Btw, viewing the page source is win.

Question #1-1a: Can you see the roll hitting the 'preview button' and if so, what's to stop someone from rolling until they get a good number? Question #2-2a: If you can only see the roll number AFTER you posted, considering that an action is based upon the roll you get, then how can you write your post according to the number you were given if the number only appears once you posted? For example, if I made a made simple attack and rolled, how would I know whether to write a success (or critical) or failure if I don't know the number of the roll? |

Oh! My brain just farted gold dust for a second. I suppose in order to fix this issue (if it is one), then people could simply double post. They can post a couple of rolls based on their actions, then use the first post (the one with the rolled numbers) to write out their second post to be accurate in their descriptions.

@Gydaon: The roll does not show up until you hit post. Double posting is now permitted in dice rolling situations. Please don't use this thread for games and the like. I don't mind testing the dice system, but if you would like to start a game, you can start one in the Forum Games forum.

That actually doesn't allow you to cheat, uberpwnage. If you click on the link in the number you got, it tells you that you did the 0d0+7 thing. So no, you cannot cheat that way. |
